Older People Helped By Positivity

July 10, 2018

A new study (albeit of a small number of people) found that older people are conditioned to avoid unhappiness and stay satisfied than young people. It said that older people tend to block out threats and thereby avoid negativity feelings and experiences. Of course, this same trait often makes older people susceptible to being taken advantage of, because they aren’t aware of threats and are too optimistic.

‘Older adults that focus more on negativity avoidance seemingly live happier lives, have better health and longevity. Older adults prioritise their emotional health to such an extent that thy proactively downregulate during the anticipation of, not just in reaction to, negative events.
