Forbes‘ annual retirement guide is out. As usual, it contains a lot of sensible and innovative advice. Most major media retirement presentations contain basic, traditional information, a good deal of which is outdated. You don’t see that in the annual Forbes review. Of course, it’s not a comprehensive guide. It provides new ideas in certain areas of retirement planning and related matters. Even if there’s nothing there you can use, its innovations should stimulate your thinking in other areas.

Related to that is an article on four sports stars who retired from their sports into other activities and did quite well at them. The lesson the article gives is that the best retirement is not to retire completely but from one activity to another, or more than one.

Evert is also taking a more active role with her investments. Her father, who had managed her money (with her input) since her playing days, directed her into bonds that provided insulation during the 2008 crash. But as the stock market roared back from its bottom, Evert shifted a portion of her assets into equities. “I’m conservative,” she says, “but I also want to be diversified.”
